JACKSON UNVEILS CONSTRUCTION AND CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PLAN

Miami, FL — Jackson Health System leaders will unveil much-anticipated recommendations for the system’s construction and capital improvement plan during the Public Health Trust Board of Trustees (PHT) Strategic Retreat on Wednesday, June 18. The recommendations include a detailed blueprint of how the Jackson of the future will look, including use of the $830 million bond overwhelmingly approved by Miami-Dade voters in November 2013 and the reinvestment of annual budget surpluses.

“Jackson is home to some of the world’s best doctors, but for years the facilities have been neglected because of lack of money,” said Carlos A. Migoya, president and CEO of Jackson Health System. “But we are on our way towards making Jackson a 21st century healthcare destination with facilities that will finally be on par with the exceptional medical care we are known for.”

Over the next decade, Jackson will evolve and grow, with the construction of new buildings and long–overdue upgrades to existing facilities.
Proposed projects touch all of Jackson’s hospitals, including Jackson North Medical Center and Jackson South Community Hospital. In addition to projects already in Jackson’s long-term plan, a number of new facilities will be proposed for the first time. A visual snapshot of Jackson as it looks today and how the health system will be transformed in the next 10 years will be shown.

No bond money will be spent until approved by the Citizens’ Advisory Committee, which will be in place this year.

Along with Migoya, PHT Chairman Darryl K. Sharpton, other board members, and members of Jackson’s executive leadership team will be available to discuss the plans during the retreat.

The capital plan proposal will be presented during an open meeting at the end of the PHT’s closed strategic session. The open meeting is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. It will be held at the Miami Marriot Biscayne Bay, 1633 N. Bayshore Drive, Miami, FL 33132, in salons G through K.
