For children
The Children’s Clinical Immunology Unit (CCIU) at Holtz Children’s Hospital is one of the only units in the country that specializes in treating children, from infants through adolescence, who are HIV-positive. Created in 1995, the unit provides care and dedicated staffing for children with compromised immune systems due to HIV. As the treatments for HIV improved over the years, more children are living longer and better lives.
Along with our expert pediatric doctors, a team of highly skilled and dedicated registered nurses ensure that children who are HIV-positive receive proper care and all the comfort they need. Special emphasis is placed on maintaining a routine lifestyle for these patients, which includes routine academic tutoring by Miami-Dade teachers. Children and their families can also eat meals and enjoy time together in the unit’s special family-friendly communal area.

Frequently asked questions

You will meet with an SFAN representative to find out if you meet certain criteria to be accepted into the program. You will need to show proof of an HIV-positive diagnosis, proof of Miami-Dade County residency, proof of income, and a photo ID.
Once you are deemed eligible for the program, medical case managers assess your medical, financial, educational, and psychosocial needs. They will then develop an individualized care plan and provide you with the necessary referrals for related medical and social services.
SFAN representatives speak English, Spanish, and Creole. Please contact your local SFAN office to address your specific needs. You can call our interpretive service hotline for other language options at 305-585-6316.
