About Prevention, Education & Treatment (P.E.T.) Center

The Prevention, Education, and Treatment (P.E.T.) Center is operated by Jackson and the Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County, is committed to the well-being and health of its community. The center’s mission is to provide prevention, education, and treatment of HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases.

Its focus is on early intervention followed by primary care services, including medical care, dental care, case management, nutritional services, and psychiatric care. The P.E.T. Center facilitates referrals to Jackson Memorial Hospital and other Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program medical providers for specialized services, as needed.

New Patients
Initial appointments are scheduled at the patient’s convenience. To schedule an appointment, call 305-535-5540, extension 4101.

New clients must provide:

  • Photo Identification
  • HIV test results (viral load and western blot)
  • Documents verifying income, residency status, and medical insurance, such as recent pay stubs, income tax returns, proof of benefits received, voter’s registration, utility bills, mortgage/lease information, insurance card, proof of Medicaid/Medicare, etc.

The P.E.T. Center has no waiting list. The center invites patients to walk-in or visit to ask questions.

If patients are admitted to a hospital for any reason, they can call a P.E.T. Center nurse 24 hours a day at 305-585-4200.

Services & Specialties

Primary care will be provided by a physician who specializes in the care of HIV spectrum disease. Evaluation and treatment begins within two weeks after your initial intake visit. If you become ill prior to your scheduled appointment, call us as soon as possible. “Walk-in” appointments are available as needed.

The center’s experienced case managers/social workers will ensure that qualified patients have access to all social services offered in the community, such as food and transportation vouchers, medication, housing, legal assistance, etc.

Your rights and privacy are very important. No patient’s medical records can be released to any person or organization without your authorization. To obtain a copy of your medical records, complete a consent form and pay the $10 fee. This process takes three days.
