Sophia Treadwell, 15, is a talented musician and singer, who has been playing classical violin, piano, and guitar since childhood. “Music has been a great part of my life,” said Sophia, a sophomore at Coral Reef High School, and member of the school’s Visual and Performing Arts Program.  “I’ve been singing since I was very young.” In May, Sophia started feeling soreness in her left arm, and couldn’t move it after a violin lesson.

On May 11, Ed Navarro was relaxing on the water off Elliot Key near Key Biscayne with two longtime friends and their sons after a morning of fishing – a hobby he’s enjoyed since childhood. “We’d made some good catches,” recalled Navarro, 55. “We were cooling off and talking about our plans for the rest of the weekend before heading back to the dock.”

After having three sons, Lilia Silva and her husband were expecting their fourth child – this time a baby girl. When Silva was 19 weeks pregnant, an ultrasound revealed an abnormality with her placenta. A specialist in Palm Beach referred her for an MRI, which confirmed the worst.

Jackson Memorial Hospital celebrated the opening of two newly renovated cardiac catheterization suites during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 19.  The suites feature the new state-of-the-art Alphenix Core+ from Canon Medical Systems, which provides diverse imaging without compromising image quality or performance. Jackson Memorial is the first hospital in Florida offering this new technology.
