Urology

Unique treatment options for prostate cancer and urologic problems put men’s fears at ease – and make miracles.

We engineer and constantly improve our leading-edge procedures to decrease risk of nerve damage and improve post-surgical erectile function.

For example, we feature robotic-assisted surgery at Jackson South Medical Center, which includes the use of human amniotic membrane as a nerve-sparing technique.

In addition to robotic surgery at Jackson South, we offer a wide range of urologic services throughout Jackson Health System.

South Florida’s Leader in Number of Robotic Prostatectomies Performed

In the United States, one man in seven will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime, but the earlier it is detected and treated, the greater his chance of a full recovery. With robotic-assisted prostate surgery, we help men face more than prostate cancer—we help them face the fears of erectile dysfunction and incontinence, concerns only a man can understand.

The Urology Center of Excellence at Jackson South Medical Center offers unique, state-of-the-art treatment options for men suffering from an enlarged prostate, kidney or bladder stones, or prostate cancer.

The center specializes in minimally invasive procedures that require limited hospitalization, shorter recovery times and minimal pain. This includes:

  • General Urology
  • Da Vinci Surgical System
  • Salvage Robotic Prostate Surgery
  • Treatment for Prostate Cancer, Enlarged
  • Prostate, Kidney or Bladder Stones & Tumors
  • Advanced Laser Stone Treatment

For Children

At Holtz Children’s Hospital, pediatric urologists treat children and adolescents with disorders of the genital tract and urinary system, ranging from structural abnormalities that are present at birth (congenital) to problems acquired as the child grows, such as urinary tract infections. Working closely with their nephrology colleagues, pediatric urologists also treat kidney anomalies, obstructions and cancer with a variety of procedures including kidney transplantation.

Pediatric urologists at Holtz Children’s also participate in delicate surgeries used to correct or treat a fetal anomaly or condition while the baby is still in its mother’s womb. One of the common surgeries performed by the specialists in the Fetal Therapy Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Women’s Hospital Center is to repair urinary tract obstruction, which could lead to the abnormal development of a baby’s kidneys and lungs.
